Why companies should upgrade from Windows XP to Ubuntu where they can!

Windows XP is old and isn't getting supported any more, so companies have a few options!
Stick with Windows XP and don't have the support and security updates!
Update to windows 7/windows 8 or Move to a linux/FreeBSD Operating System!

Windows XP isn't supported after 8th of April 2014, this means that there will be no security updates or support for XP from Microsoft, this means that over time, there will be many more viruses, spyware and other types of malicious type software, that could infect the PC, and with no support the software can get in with less problems!
Basically with no updates comes allot of security issues come with little to no protection!

This means that customer and business data is vulnerable to attack, people can steal the companies and users data much easier, and that can be bad for the company, it's much better to be safe then sorry!

What can you do to prevent these issues, or at least make the data more safe?
Upgrade, you can either upgrade to windows 7 or windows 8, or you could even try your hand at a linux distro such as Ubuntu!

Sure windows 7 is an easy way to upgrade and have almost full compatibility with windows xp software, and sure Windows 7 is fairly similar to windows xp, but here's some positive reasons to choose Ubuntu over Windows 7 or 8!

Cost: You need to pay licencing fees to install Windows 7 or 8 at companies, and perhaps thats not to expensive for a company if you're only upgrading one or two, but if you're upgrading a few hundred then that will be alot of coins out of the pocket!

Specifications/Resources:
Windows 7 requires: 1GB of RAM and 20GB of HDD
Where as Ubuntu 13.10 only requires: 64 Megabytes of RAM and 5GB of HDD
this means that older systems can still run Ubuntu and newer systems will be more efficient, over the Windows 7 counter part!

Files have tab's: So in Ubuntu you can open tabs in the file system, this means that moving files from one tab to the next easier!

You can choose windows to stay ontop: This feature can be useful when juggling around windows and trying to keep looking at this window, while scrolling down the other, while compiling all this information, sometimes windows can go missing thus adding stress, if you right click one of the windows then select stay ontop, you will not loose that window!

HUD: Ubuntu has a lovely feature where if you press ALT you can search for the option you want, so as long as you know what you want you just press alt, type what you want, then it'll be there rather then searching all the menu's to find what you want, and thus saving time and money!

Opensauce: Ubuntu is Open-sauce, this means the ICT people can see what's going on, they can make sure that there's no spyware or back-doors, this means there's much less chance of spying, (The NSA has had back-doors in windows), and if you don't like some code or what to make it more purposeful for your company, you can easily change it!

Always free and constant updates: you have Long Term Support version's of Ubuntu which you can hold onto for a few years until the next LTS and its free, you'll keep getting updates often and you'll never have to pay!

replacement's for apps
This is more difficult, you have your basic apps which are quite easy to replace..
Microsoft office can be replaced with OpenOffice, or Kingsoft Office, or if you're willing theres always online options such as google drive!

Really the replacement apps depend on what you do, and so its probably best to search before you switch and have a list of apps!
say if you wanted an art app for ubuntu, type in Ubuntu art application, and you'll find GIMP and Inkscape!

If you can find replacements then you're all dandy!

I hope I've helped you see why Ubuntu will be a good idea to upgrade to as long as you find the applications!
