Microsoft has Skype, Nintendo has there face chat, what will Sony have?
Playstation has a time line like social feature!

Sony is trying to get us all to socialise, and why not?
Socialising could lead to people buying games they wouldn't normally buy!
Not only is it good for us to be able to video chat, voice chat, IM, and show of stuff you've done!

Sony has a Skype application on Vita and Psp, so Sony could have Skype integration, but should we expect that?
I can see Sony trying to get Skype, but Microsoft could easily say no, or Sony might prefer to give there money to someone else!
Sony has a few options here!
They could develop there own video chat app and interface, but the thing with that is that will either only be available for playstation or no one would be using there app!
If Sony create there own there will be questions to answer and Gamer's would rather see them focusing on games rather then how should we make chat work, but then anyone who does use it, will want it to look good and have plenty of features!

So a better option is to go with someone else's!
Google Hangouts
I've heard a lot of people say that they have ditched using Skype for Hangouts, and if they haven't got an account then it's easy to set one up!
Google hangouts is great, and with Sony, normally making good use of your existing hardware it would be easy to type to your friends using a keyboard!
Hangouts already has a user base and is connected to a social website making sharing gameplay easy, and a great way to stream to selected friends!
I'm not sure if google hangouts would be used as in there conference they showed that you can connect with your facebook account but didn't show Google +
And also Google hasn't showed much if any interest in supporting consoles with their software, discluding the android OS!
Messaging
This is pretty simple since it doesn't have to do anything special, it doesn't even need to send messages to other devices, just PS4, and maybe Vita, but if you want a bigger range you it wouldn't be to difficult to develop with!
It would be simple to develop and doesn't need a ton of development, but if sony wants a 3rd party messenger, theres no shortage of options!

Perhaps it should only show your gaming feed
perhaps more people would be more interested if it intergrated there facebook and Google+ account!
maybe they should show you all, or maybe they could split it by your choice!
Maybe you could split the feed to only show you what your best friends have been sharing recently!
What are your thoughts and feelings about these social options and features, do you want them to connect to other social websites or do you want your playstation features to only be about playstation, or do you not care about these features at all?
